It does not need to be a prescription medication to start with, if you have a mild case of acne then an over the counter medication may be the best choice. If that particular acne cream treatment is not working then your doctor may prescribe a stronger product that requires a prescription.

Not every product will work the same for each person that uses it. Everyone has different skin and what works for your friend may not work for you. Some people will have an allergic reaction to some medications. If possible, try using a natural acne cream treatment rather than a strong chemical based product.
